Piel Café is comprised of two poets, performing artists, and educators who perform and facilitate workshops that bridge lived experience with the written word. Julian and Noel perform work containing deeply personal stories of struggle, exploration, and cultural discovery. This artform has become the basis of both poets understanding of the world, a process which they seek to share with audiences across the country. Through spoken word Julian and Noel speak to the importance of self discovery, particularly for those who are often marginalized. Piel Café believes that we as marginalized people must speak out, yet only after reflecting upon our own histories. Their pieces reflect this ideal, each performance an authentic representation of who they are. They are here, ready to listen and willing to be heard.
